Tips for Your Holiday Survival Challenge
Hi, my name is Katie Carey, and I’m a personal trainer and group fitness instructor at Craigslist Gainesville health and fitness. Today I’d like to give you a few tips for your holiday survival challenge using some simple fitness equipment that will help you if you’re short on time. So your first exercise is a band walk. This is going to target the legs and glutes and keep you really strong and tone through the holidays.
So you’re going to take the handles in each hand and we’re going to place the band on the floor and step in the center of the band to create a little tension by bringing the feet slightly apart. But you can then cross the handles and bring the handles up to opposite hips. drawing your belly into the brace, you’re going to bend the knees slightly and we can take a few steps to the side to one and back the other way. So you can do these for different amounts of repetitions, maybe up to 20 or you can try band walks for a solid minute.
Targets the Legs and upper body
Your next exercise is a really great compound exercise that targets the legs and upper body. Once again, we’re going to take the handles and on each hand. So we’re going to place the band on the floor and step in the center so the band is securely under the feet. We’re then going to do a squat with a bicep curl so you sit the hips back while keeping the belly braced. Bring the palms up towards the shoulders and stand up. So we can also add a front raise. So turn the knuckles facing forward, keep the arms straight. As you sit back, bring the arms up to shoulder height, squeeze the butt to lift. Again, you can do 10 to 20 reps of each or try squats with the front razor bicep curl for 30 seconds to a minute.
Exercise targets the upper body and also core
Our final exercise targets the upper body and also core because you’re going to want to be stabilizing with your torso. So you’re going to take your band and wrap it around the bottoms of your feet. You can then cross the band holding the handles in opposite hands so it’s secure, keeping the knees slightly bent or leg straight to make it a little harder. We’re going to lean back to still it’ll keep the spine long and strong, chest lifted ABS braced, extend your arms forward, hold the elbows back squeezing your shoulder blades together. You can also bring the palms facing each other and pull the arms back more in a fly-type motion targeting the upper body and shoulders. Really good for the upper body again 10 to 20 reps or try it for 30 seconds.
So resistance bands are really great and inexpensive way to keep your fitness routine up during your holiday survival challenge. They’re portable, they’re inexpensive, and they can help you achieve a quick circuit workout wherever you are.
